june 18 (Love & Peace)

On Saturday I had to cover some books in contact plastic for my nephew. 

Because the books are small there were lots of small left over pieces So I made some type out of them for my bathroom wall. It was really difficult photographing this because its see through. I like it because it's really subtle. 

How I did this: Made this design on the computer, then inverted it (put it back to front) because you need to trace the design on the back of the contact and the design will be the wrong way round if you don't.
I literally put the contact, face down, on the computer screen and lightly traced the type with a pencil. 
I then cut it out with a cutting knife.
I made light lines on the wall with a pencil of where I want to put it.
NOTE: remember to erase the lines before putting the vinyl over it, because once it is pasted you cant get rid of the line... 

june 17 (moss)

I found a tutorial on how to make type on a wall that is actual growing moss. And I just had to try and do it.

I used moss that was growing in our garden, so I'm not too sure if this will actually work, but I'll just have to wait and see! I found the tutorial here:

Almost every week I get treated to a new display in the foyer of our house done by my dad.

June 14 (blue)

I crocheted this for a wedding I went to in December, I had the exact colour blue dress.

 I didn't have internet this whole weekend. This is getting out of hand, I know. But I'm going to post some things that made me smile this weekend...

We spent Friday night walking around cape town instead of driving or getting lifts. It was so much fun and I think we are going to make a habit of it.

June 8 (pumpkin head)

I couldn't do a post yesterday because my nephew was sleeping in my studio and we still don't have wireless. 

SO here is my post for yesterday. 

Had some left over yarn so I made this silly looking beanie. kinda love it though.

June 7 (Edgar)

I have started a plant collection on my desk at work. Don't know why, but I feel my plants should have names. Edgar is my favourite.

June 6 (Bass face)

Can't really work without these babies. Pretty sure these Technics headphones of mine are older then me. They beat any other expensive headphones. Thought they deserve some publicity.

June 4 (Motha City)

Need I say more? Table mountain is definitely one of the most inspiring things I see daily. Took this pic when we went sailing in table bay the other day, the sea was so calm it was actually a little scary.

June 3 (Dynamite)

These 2 are in my studio, my super talented sister in law Antoinette Cloete Nel painted them for me as a surprise gift ages ago. I think I only realize their value now. They are only about 10 by 10 cm each and I think that is what makes them so special. Thanx sis

June 2 (mona)

My dad studied fine art and he did this silk screen print for an exhibition in his final year. It's not the final product, it needed one more colour or something like that, but I love it. It hangs above my bed at the moment. My nephew of two calls her mona. 

23 and my dad is still my hero.

June 1 (eau de toilette)

So the first pic I post has to be of the object that started me thinking about this.

Certainly not the modern kind that most people are used to these days.

Never thought my toilet would make it onto the interweb :P
